Oh this is going to be fun! I can’t wait to see what will appear on this site. I still love your work and think it’s very funny. I won’t read the local paper to much BS, but I enjoy your site. Keep up the good work. Dale

Let’s bring back a much-needed community forum!

Mike,
I think you ought to give people the option of using a screen name or pseudonym (provided that they supply a real name and e-mail address that can be verified).
There are just too many instances of official and/or personal retaliation that have arisen for the crime of exercising the “freedom” to speak one’s own mind or opinion.

Ken,
As far as I know, you are not required to use your real name. As far as response times go, I’m not sure what the problem is with that. I am thinking of changing this blog to make it faster and easier to use. Maybe changing the name too because I don’t want it to be just about my cartoons.

I think that no matter the risk we should use our actual ID’s. Any other opinions……Just squeek Up!

My actual ID is Sinbad because of safety reasons. I do not wish to have my real name out there because of the safety of myself or my family. We have already had problems with this town and do not wish any further problems. By using another name it allows me to comment with clarity and without any apprehensions or fear. Just a thought for you Jim

Jim: Are you going to post the video you did of the meeting on Thursday at the BOH. I would also be interested to know if you have a copy or video of the meeting of the BOH in November that you might be willing to share with the people of this town

Are you folks kidding me? WHAT are people afraid of? I think Sound Off should be banned, anonymity should be banned.
Repercussions my butt! It’s a shame that people have been intimidated to that extent…
Sorry, but my honest opinion..
On another note, Mike love your stuff. We regualry look at these at family gatherings with all the family who no longer live in the area and it’s great for belly laughs! Your books have made excellent Christmas gifts.

Mike: thank you for having this site. I can understand the reasons for Sinbad not wanting to use his real name. This town has an under-current that has lasted for many years even if Kathy Charette does not understand that fact. I remember her father and some of the advice that he mentioned about living in Southbridge. When he played at Cohasse many years ago there was a faction of folks that he always stayed away from because of who they were and what they stood for. Kathy, I am sorry you moved to Sturbridge but if you had stayed you might have understood what happens in this town.
Yes there are many good things in Southbridge and I am sure you can agree. But there is also a fragment of the town that is only into politics for certain reasons and that is what concerns many of us. When people of this town can be called into the police station for unjustified and untruthful reasons, intimidated in the town hall, intimidated in public without just cause-there is certainly something wrong here. Keep your faith and hopefully some time soon thing will change.

Steris, I guess you’re right, and I certainly can’t argue with anything my Dad stood for. He was the greatest. Don’t know who you are or how you knew him, but that doesn’;t matter.
Remember though, he lived in Sturbridge for most of his adult life. If he hadn’t left us the house, we’d probably still be in town- just doing school choice for obvious reasons.
Sadly, that was the most important concern we had, and because of it and inheriting a house we had no reason to stay. And I mean none. Last night’s cartoon says it all, I believe. You don’t need to live in Southbridge to care and to make a positive impact there.
I suppose people may get accused of different things, justly or unjustly, but I’m not sure that Southbridge is any different than any other small town when it comes to that stuff. There are politics everywhere.
I am keeping the faith that the town will find a way to build that new school and continue going in the right direction for the future of all the families and kids who are still there.

Mike: Was wondering if anyone read the SEN 3/8/10 pertaining to Civil Action No 10-0336E as reported on page 11. It is addressed to James J Morin of Acton, County of Worcester-pertaining to property on Podunk Road Sturbridge Ma. The deed as recorded in Worcester is for $350,000. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is the same James J Morin of Action that is the agent to the Board of Health in Southbridge? Does it occur to anyone out there that this person if in such a position should be looked at a little closer if he has financial difficulties?

All,
If interested, I will supply any and all videos of Southbridge public meetings in my video library to any respondent who request same. I can put it in any format and on a disc. Many of them are lengthy and cannot be attached to an e-mail so I would need an address or if anonymity is necessary, a designated drop box for disc delivery. (Conspiracy theorists take note). I review them from time to time to see how our politicians waiver from pillar to post on issues that affect us the most. One would be surprised how the SOS, EOS, and the RMV crowd perpetuate popular fiction. The EOS blame game crowd is the worst because under the color of “authority” they whine and whine and get nothing completed. They use the same has been state officials and failed Politian’s to pump up their own agendas and alienate our elected officials with threats. This proves their lack of negotiating skills and immature approach to life. Prediction: the RMV will only open a small satellite office at the RR station with minimum amount of clerk staff, and Senator MOORE will be reelected. The bookies in Las Vegas won’t give even odds on this one. Watch for more on the cable access channel.

I agree with Kathy about the naming convention. We should all stand up for our convictions using our real names. In response to the James Morin of Acton being notified in the paper about the property in Sturbridge. I was wondering that myself. I would like to know if that is our BOH Director and if it is, why is he insisting on instituting a home grown recycling program that will cost the Town of Southbridge more money to implement and run? Why isn’t anyone fighting to keep recyclingbank program in town? Why is Southbridge always the first town to shoot down free money? ie. ELT funding from the State, Recyclebank donating money to the schools, Just some of the questions I have. Thank you.
